"J Olliver Trenay" Ledger
1925 to 1946
This Olliver Ledger was one of many given to St Neot Archive by Agnes Olliver. Our thanks to Agnes and Jack for retaining these valuable accounts of St Neot life during the second quarter of the 20th century. At the start of the period when mechanisation was being introduced into the farming industry in rural Cornwall.
Our thanks also to Clarice Barriball who has spent many hours in the Archive on Thursdays transcribing this and other Ledgers, well done Clarice!
The Ledger, pictured on the front cover, measurers 23.5cm x 15.5cm is mid-grey in colour with a maroon spine. “Ledger” is written in gold lettering in the center of the front cover.
This ledger covers the period from 1925 to 1946 and includes transactions of Animals, mostly Cows & Bulls and Pigs.
Various types of Fodder are recorded as being supplied and transported, costs of these are also recorded.
Petrol and Oil deliveries are also listed. Transport of mostly goods is frequently documented, sometimes the location of the journeys is mentioned.
“Bull to Cow” and “Pig to Sow” are entered It would appear that the Ollivers supplied many different types of plants and delivered them to the Farms and Smallholdings growing them.
In the “Farm Work” column I have listed the variety of farm work recorded as well as wages paid to named people.
If your family name appears and they lived in St Neot during the period 1926 to 1946 come into the Archive and have a look at the ledgers. Good luck with your research!
It is not feasible to show jpeg images of every one of the 126 plus pages. If you find a reference to your relatives or ancestors in the Charts please contact us in the Archive and arrange to visit and have a look at the original Ledger.
