Ledger Transposing of Family Records
Transposed by Chris Timms 2026. If your Family name appears on this list and they were resident in St Neot at the time of the Ledger contact us to view the appropriate Ledger. Good luck with researching and meeting your Ancestors!
The many “Kent Blacksmith’s Ledgers” were given to the St Neot Archive by Bridget & Peter Kent. They provide us with an interesting sociological insight into the daily life of the 1920’s.
These four charts show the people listed in the Kent Blacksmith’s Ledger 1925 to 1928. There is one entry in Dec. 1924! Have a look and see if any of your ancestors are featured in these records. There are over 150 double pages in the ledger with details such as work carried out by the blacksmith and articles sold by the blacksmith, e.g. “1 Quart of Machine Oil 11d” Please be aware that all of the accounting is recorded in £ s d. pre decimal money. 12d = 1s, 20s =£. There were 240d in £1. s = shilling, d = pence.
If you are researching family history or “Blacksmithing” you are very welcome to visit us in the Archive to look at the original Ledgers.
This ledger measures 32.5cm x 16.3cm. It is coloured grey and has a maroon spine and corners. The word “Ledger” is written in gold lettering on the spine.
