Kent Blacksmith’s Ledger 1935 to 1951

This ledger also contains many farming entries as well as the blacksmithing records. The majority of the entries span the period from 1935 to 1939, however, there are a small number of WWII “war time” records. There are also a few post war entries dated up to 1951.

The ledger has one page inside the front cover that contains addresses of suppliers , the second and third pages before the index pages contain various notes and addresses.

A page has been glued to the third page, this records the “Midsummer” quarter accounts for 1935. Index page “A” (opposite the glued page) contains notes referring to these records.

Index pages contain records for Michaelmas 1935, Christmas 1935, Midsummer 1936, Michaelmas 1936, Christmas 1936, Ladyday 1937 & Midsummer 1937. Towards the end of the index pages “Cash a/c” for 1936 is recorded over three pages. On index page WY “Cart Iron Work” and work carried out for John Kent Treloske and E Deeble Mount Pleasant are shown. There are two pages after the index (before the numbered pages) that contain sundry accounts.

The numbered pages range from 1 to 179, they are numbered with facing pages of both the same number. If you are researching any entry with e.g. page 1 you will have “Mr Skynner” on the lefthand page1 and “Mr Bunt” on the righthand page 1. Some of the numbered pages have single entries others have multiple entries.

The alphabetical chart 1 shows only the numbered pages with “Family” entries, Quarterday and “Cows Sold” etc pages have had images taken of them that are detailed enough to enlarge and read. They do not appear on the chart. This Ledger is maroon coloured with a slightly darker maroon spine and triangular corner pieces. It has “LEDGER” in gold lettering on the spine. It measurers 32.5cm x 21cm. The inside cover and first page are marbled maroon as is the inside back cover and last page.
